Frequently played live of late, this is one of my faves of the new tracks. A number of people have told me they don't really get into this one. But I think they're mad! This is a choon! The live version is a lot faster than the studio version, which gutted me a bit. Because I loved the live one and thought changing it would mean hurting it. However, the studio version of Dollars & Cents IS excellent. There's more backing vocals than in the live one, not to mention fantastic strings pulling and ripping through the track. And though the eerie guitar isn't as noticeable, Thom's moaning is all the more dominant for it. An excellent track both ways.

I love the closing lyrics. Possibly a swipe at todays corporations and the fact that everything is run by money? This track features some of the most difficult lyrics to decipher ever! If you think I've got them horribly wrong, please e-mail me with some corrections! Cheers, guv.

Update: I'm now convinced that even Radiohead don't know the lyrics to this song. On the official website, the lyrics page for this track has question marks. And when you see Thom sing it live, he sings different lyrics, and for some parts he literally just mumbles! Not that this detracts from the quality of the song any.. So I've decided to change the lyrics here to those of the live version.

It ain't nothing to talk about
Be constructive
There are weapons we can use
Be constructive with your blues

Even when it's only warnings
Even when you're talking war games

Why don't you quiet down?
Why don't you quiet down?
Why don't you quiet down?
Why don't you quiet down?
Quieten down

All over the neighbourhood
You're going to remember this day
All over the neighbourhood
Better times when I could stand it, babe

It's all over the streets tonight
It's all over the streets so let me out of here
It's all over the streets tonight
It's all over the streets so let me out of here
It's all over

We are the dollars and cents
And the pounds and pence
And the mark and the yen
And yeah, we're gonna crack your little souls
We're gonna crack your little souls

(quieten down)
(why don't you quiet down?)

We are the dollars and cents
And the pounds and pence
And the mark and the yen
And yeah, we're gonna crack your little souls
Crack your little souls

(why don't you quiet down?)
(why don't you quiet down?)

We are the dollars and cents
