The second single from the OK Computer disc. Karma Police was a song thought up by Ed. It had been a band catchphrase for a while, when someone was being a bit of a twat, they'd say "The Karma Police are gonna get you". It's about the idea that of Karma, and that everything you do in this life will change how you're treated by fate.

During the shoot of the Karma Police video, carbon monoxide was thrown out of the air conditioner, so as Thom sang and performed for the video, he was poisoning himself to death. During the final "I lost myself" refrain, he fainted. Right after they were done, they took him out of the car and gave him oxygen. He got better.

Karma Police was debuted back in 1996 durning the Alanis Morissette tour. Thom sang the line "This is what you'll get" an octave higher than he does on the album, with brillant results.

This track is one of the band's more famous singles. It has a really catchy chorus, with Jonny on the piano. It left the UK charts soon after entering them, but the video stayed in TV rotations for much longer.

Karma police, arrest this man
He talks in maths
He buzzes like a fridge
He's like a detuned radio

Karma police, arrest this girl
Her Hitler hairdo
Is making me feel ill
And we have crashed her party

This is what you'll get
This is what you'll get
This is what you'll get when you mess with us

Karma Police
I've given all I can
It's not enough
I've given all I can
But we're still on the payroll

This is what you'll get
This is what you'll get
This is what you'll get when you mess with us

For a minute there, I lost myself, I lost myself
Phew, for a minute there, I lost myself, I lost myself

For for a minute there, I lost myself, I lost myself
Phew, for a minute there, I lost myself, I lost myself
Thom Yorke "Karma is an important idea. I like it. It makes me nicer to people. It fills me with joy. This song makes me laugh. It was Ed's idea." - Thom

"Karma Police is just a joke. It's the only funny song on the album. A sentence like "Karma Police, arrest this man" actually belongs in a textballoon for a comic strip." - Thom

"This is a song for someone who has to work for a large company. This is a song against bosses, fuck middle-management! Hahaha." - Thom Jonny Greenwood

"It was a band catchphrase for a while on tour - whenever someone was behaving in a particularly shitty way, we'd say 'The karma police will catch up with him sooner or later.' You have to rely on something like that, even though we're probably just kidding ourselves. But it's not a revenge thing, just about being happy with your own behaviour." - Jonny

"Because of the word karma a lot of people think automatically about John Lennon, but to me it's more like Perfect Day by Lou Reed in a musical point of view. Karma Police is something from our last tour. When someone misbehaved we always said: the karma police is going to get him or her in the end." - Jonny
Ed O'Brien
"When someone in the band behaved like an arsehole, one of the others always said: 'The Karma Police is gonna get you'. I suppose it's all rubbish that your destiny depends on your deeds in a previous life, but you have to trust on something." - Ed
